The International Confederation of Midwives (ICM) launched the first International Day of the Midwife (IDM) on 5 May 1991. On this day midwives, from all affiliated associations express solidarity through joint activities to highlight the knowledge and skills of midwives, and celebrate with women the contribution midwives make to the health of their nations. As part of the celebrations the Royal College of Midwives will be releasing 1000 balloons from Trafalgar Square at 11am on Friday 4th May. The IMA would like to join into the celebrations but also highlight our plight. In our endavour to obtain indemnity cover to continue in our practice we have had support from midwives worldwide.
