Members and supporters of the Independent Midwives Association plan to attend the Royal College of Midwives Annual Conference at the Metropole Hotel in Brighton to raise awareness of the issues concerning the potential loss of independent midwifery and the ongoing campaign to lobby Government to help them find a solution.
Patricia Hewitt is expected to attend the RCM conference.
The theme of the conference is "midwives delivering choice". The Independent midwives will be protesting that without help from the Government, a choice for women and midwives will be lost.
The Independent Midwives Association asking the RCM, the Midwives' union of whom many independent midwives are members, to publicly declare its support for the campaign
By finding a solution, the choice of continuity for women and autonomy for midwives will stay alive.
No solution will result in the loss of more midwives from the profession and the current maternity crisis may worsen.
They are urging public support and want the Government to use them, not lose them.
The Independent Midwives Association is expecting many midwives, mothers, fathers and babies to attend in support.
